Last year I wrote an Intentions post and thought it might be fun to compare what I wanted to do last year versus what I actually did.
Here was what I wanted to do:
Launch Assured Destruction: WITH ZOMBIES including a Kickstarter campaign.
Total win–doubled my goal on Kickstarter and reviews are great.
Write LINEAGE, YA scifi
Didn’t happen, which is weird, but I’ve started a lot of projects that didn’t happen even though the premises were great this year. Also, it’s a bit dystopic and I’m concerned about the marketability. (It’s not all art, folks!)
Rewrite THE RIVER KEEPERS
Done! And on submission.
Launch THE TERMINALS, my thriller about a secret government agency that uses the terminally ill to discover information from dead people in order to solve real world emergencies, that one.
Out! And with awesome reviews.
Education projects–expected nothing new, but …
I had six publications on this front in 2014, count em. Six! With Pearson and Scholastic. Total win.
Other Projects included AVATARS which I’m really just starting to get going on, but into which I’ve now wrapped ideas around transhumanism and bioethics, it’s a cool book, but early days.
Most importantly though, I wrote three other books in 2014.
KEEP IN A COLD DARK PLACE, MG, Horror
THE BOY WHO SWALLOWS FLIES, MG, Superhero
Ready for sub
COUNTING WOLVES, YA, Contemporary
Polishing to a fine sheen
Really? I wrote all that? Published 8 books and wrote 3?
Sometimes a post like this is worthwhile because it makes you realize how much you did accomplish in 2014. I even won a nice big award.
So, what dandelion fluff will be released in 2015? I do find that a lot of writing means quite a bit of rewriting, so I fully expect revision requests from editors on the above. So that will hijack some new story writing time. But–I will write:
AVATARS–A single title ‘big’ YA. (I’d like to create an Alternate Reality Game component for this one too.)
Rewrite KEEP IN A COLD DARK PLACE based on a RR
I have series ideas for THE RIVER KEEPERS and THE BOY WHO SWALLOWS FLIES, so I may end up writing a second book in those worlds.
Other projects include anthropomorphic irradiated animals set in Chernobyl titled THE RED FOREST (MG), LINEAGE (yes, still), THE CLOCKSMITH (MG), and FASTER THAN LIGHT (YA, space pirate).
So I enter 2015 with pretty decent momentum and lots that I’d like to really nail.
See you in the New Year!
